Odisha Govt stresses on zero diarrhoea death
Bhubaneswar, June 26: With onset of rainy season, Government has brought to focus its Campaign against Malaria, Dengue, Diarrhoea. A special campaign named MDD and Intensified Diarrhoea Control Month ( IDCM) has been launched from 20th June, 2018. Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi reviewed progress of the campaign over a video conferencing with Collectors and Chief District Medical Officers today in secretariat conference hall wherein Secretary Health and Family Welfare Pramod Kumar Meherda outlined the issues and Special Secretary Smt Shalini Pandit presented the updates for discussion.
Reviewing the implementation of the campaign under Universal Health Coverage Programme of State Government, Chief Secretary Sri Padhi directed the Collectors to cover all households both in rural and urban areas and ensure “zero” Diarrhoea death in the age group of 0-5 during the current season. Sri Padhi further directed to prevent “morbidity & mortality due to malaria, Diarrhoea & Dengue in all age groups”.
Special Secretary Smt Pandit said that the Malaria, Dengue, Diarrhoea (MDD) campaign and Integrated Diarrhoea Control Month (ICDM) has been launched from 20th June, 2018 and it would be carried on till 19th September, 2018. During this time all the households in 30 districts and 5 municipal corporations will be covered under the campaign. The campaign will be implemented in 2 phases over this 3 month period. The Phase-I which has started from 20th June will continue up to 19th July 2018. During this period the diarrhoea control measures will be intensified in 117 priority blocks and other 197 identified blocks. Phase-II will start from 20th July and will last up to 19th September, 2018. This phase will focus on prevention and control of Malaria and Dengue.
Chief Secretary Sri Padhi directed the collectors to conduct district level convergence meeting involving concerned departments, review availability of drugs, logistics and IEC material and position those at appropriate level for delivery to people. They were also asked to procure ORS packets and drugs, if necessary, in coordination with Odisha State Medical Corporation. Secretary Sri Meherda asked the collectors to work out the district level monitoring plan involving all the stake holders.
Further, Chief Secretary Sri Padhi directed the Collectors and CDMOs to ensure proper implementation of Nidan ( free diagnostic service), Sahaya ( free dialysis service), Niramaya ( free medicine supply) and Nirmal ( promotion of healthy and hygienic hospitals including sanitation laundry, security and lift services). Government has made annual budgetary provision of Rs. 120 cr for these ancillary services up to PHC level. The Collectors were also asked to ensure disbursal of nutrition support assistance to the TB patients. It may be pertinent here to mention that Government has made provision of providing Rs.500/- per month to each T.B. patient as nutritional support assistance. This is being provided with effect from 1st April, 2018. There are around 53,000 notified T.B cases in the state. All eligible patients will be covered under the programme.
