YMCA to celebrate 125th foundation day

Cuttack, April 26: Young Men’s Christian Association, (YMCA) Cuttack is going to celebrate 125 year of celebration on April 27 and April 28. The YMCA, Cuttack was established in 1893 by Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das and it is the second oldest YMCA in Eastern India Region.YMCA, Cuttack is part of YMCA International and is registered under Society Registration Act of 1860 on 7″ February 1977.

The Press Meet was addressed by Dr. Raj Bolobha Mohanty President and Debesh Kumar Roul Board Members of YMCA, Cuttack. Mr Jacob Koshy, Vice President, national Council of YMCA, India is slated to attend as Chief Guest in the celebration of 125th years of YMCA, said Dr Raj Bolobha Mohanty. He also said a special souvenir to be released by Chief Guest Mr. Jacob Koshy.

A delegate presenting 17th YMCA’s from the 5 states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim and Odisha to participate in the 125th celebration of YMCA.

YMCA is a membership based organization and is open to all, irrespective of Religion, Caste, Creed, Colour and Gender. There are more than 1500 YMCAs in India.

The YMCA, Cuttack is a programme based Organization and has catered to the needs of Underprivileged in general and youth in particular. YMCA, Cuttack has provided infrastructure, encourage and support the youth of Odisha to excel in sports like Badminton, Basket Ball, Volleyball and Table Tennis. YMCA, Cuttack every year organized Inter School Literary Competition (ISLC) for School & College students of Odisha.

Odisha had witnessed many natural calamities and YMCA, Cuttack has always supported people in distress. In 1999 Odisha has witnessed Super Cyclone. The devastation was unprecedented. YMCA, Cuttack alone and in association with other relief agency (nationally & internationally) undertake and participate in emergency relief,long term rehabilitation and income generation programmes for the cyclone affected people of Cuttack District.

Helping Hands is a YMCA, Cuttack programme for under privilege students, where 30 nos. of students from government schools enrolled into YMCA Art and Craft School. They were provided free art and craft training for one year.

YMCA, Cuttack has been recognized, felicitated awarded and applauded (Locally & Internationally) by Guinness Book of World Records, Central Red Cross Blood Bank and by the Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Pattnaik.
