Closing of the Pankha exhibition at IGNCA

New Delhi, Jul 4: Pankha; A Collection of Hand Fans from the Indian Subcontinent and Beyond by Artist Jatin Das closed on Sunday, 24 June 2018 at the IGNCA’s Twin Galleries with a musical performance, summer drinks, demonstrations by craftspeople and a guided tour. There were about 500 hand fans on view from the collection of over 6,000 pankha-related objects. The exhibition was sponsored by IGNCA, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), TRIFED, Sona Paper, Citibank and Diageo.

Over the month-long exhibition, thousands of visitors participated in a multitude of events including guided walks with the collector and workshops for adults and children held by craftspeople and artists each Sunday. Participants were encouraged to explore their creativity, learn a new craft and make their own pankhas. The final workshop was focused on Sikki grass crafts. Pankha documentaries were screened daily.The programmes were free and open to all.

On Tuesday, 26 June the Minister of Culture visited IGNCA to view the collection on its final exhibition day. He was greeted by Jatin Das and given a tour of the collection.
