Christians in Nagaland observe Good Friday
Kohima, April 19: Faithful across Nagaland observed the Good Friday with prayers and devotions, as they thronged to churches or hold fellowship, to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Churches in Nagaland today observed Good Friday with a subdued service, in which Christ’s death is remembered with solemn hymns, prayers of thanksgiving, and a message centred on Christ’s sacrifice for humanity.
Most churches across the state were overflowed with the faithful as they turn up a large number to listen, to a special sermon about sacrifice and salvation with great humility and reverence.
Believers of various denominations hold fasting and prayers today. A special cross procession, remembering the walk of Jesus Christ to Mount Calvary, is being organised in the State Capital Kohima. On this day some 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross at Mount Calvary.
Meanwhile, Government offices, schools, colleges and business establishments remained closed. Though Good Friday is being observed with sombre devotion, on the other hand, Christians across the state are eagerly waiting for Easter on Sunday, which celebrates the Resurrection of Christ, a foundation of the Christian faith.
